FIM for immich servers

January 11, 2024

So, I have an IMMICH server and I found a bunch of stuff in the uploads folder that looks like it’s probably bad images that didn’t make and other chaff. I wanted to have look to make sure the images actually made it (compare what I’m seeing that’s broken and stuck in uploads with what I see in the galleries). This is happening in a container on a VM on proxmox. So it’s not really a friendly desktop environment where I can browse around and see what’s what.

I looked around for an image viewer that would do the job without installing a bunch of crap on the VM (I’m using volumes so I can see the uploads directory for the container on the VM).

I started with sxiv. The tricky thing about this is it has the underlying software that it runs on in the name X11. If you don’t have X11 installed (which I don’t need for a container holding VM) it won’t work. So that was a disappointment.

I then found FIM (frame buffer image viewer, improved). This is available in the Debian repositories and is very light weight and easy to use. It’s perfect for browsing the uploads directories and images of immich to see if you lost anything important or if something really didn’t make it.
